It's been a long 2 plus years since the Long John Silver's on N.W. Cache Road in Lawton, OK. was shut down. We've all wondered when and if it would be reopened. Well, it's looking like it could be sometime soon. If you've been near the corner of Cache Road and 26th Street lately you've probably seen all the construction.

In February 2020 a fire broke out that severely damaged the property and almost burned it to the ground. You can click here to read the story from KSWO. Ever since that time, it's sat empty and most thought it would never return. Now construction crews are hard at work completely rebuilding and remodeling the old L-J-S.

I went by there today to grab some pictures and see what I could find out. I spoke with some of the construction crew and they couldn't 100% confirm that it would be a Long John Silver's or some other business, but they did mention that the color scheme is the exact same as other L-J-S. That's promising!

While we were unable to get 100% confirmation that it would definitely be Long John Silver's restaurant, I'm about 99% sure that it will be. More and more people are talking about it and some even say they've confirmed it and that it will be reopening sometime this summer. Either way, it's great to see work being done on the property after it's sat empty for so long. Most of us are happy that something's being done with it.

When it burned in 2020 it happened right during the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic so that really messed things up. There was really no way they could rebuild or remodel, or do much about the building itself until things improved. That would explain why it was abandoned and nothing was being done to fix it up until now.

While it was abandoned a YouTuber named WallieB26 did a video about it. You can click here for the story and video. It showed the state the building was in and how a few items, tables, and chairs were left behind. He also did a video on the K-Mart building that has now been turned into a U-Haul center and eventually storage facility. It's great to see these places restored and repurposed instead of just sitting there empty.
